How to strengthen ties across the Channel post-Brexit?
‘Going Dutch’ is a partner project between Jazz Promotion Network and Dutch Performing Arts. Amazing Dutch music in venues around Britain and Ireland. With the generosity of Dutch Performing Arts, the ‘Going Dutch’ scheme has been providing substantial support for PR and travel and accommodation costs for the past three years. This panel is the follow-up of the success of ‘Going Dutch’.
The Jazz Promotion Network aims to advance and support professional development, information exchange and partnership opportunities for the UK and Irish jazz industry, artists and audiences. A collaborative network that enables the diverse UK and Irish jazz sector to thrive, innovate and inspire.
Jazz Promotion Network is very pleased to be co-hosting a panel talk as part of inJazz’s virtual conference! The panel members will be discussing how UK and Irish jazz promoters and arts organisations can continue to build on the success of ‘Going Dutch’ and strengthen ties with cultural partners from the Netherlands post-Brexit
Mijke Loeven is director of Amsterdam's famed jazz venue BIMHUIS. The venue has started BIMHUIS Productions in order to create room for ‘the development of relatively unknown but excellent talent, for new ensembles and brilliant compositions, for willfulness, virtuosity and great performances’. Needless to say that BIMHUIS has been supporting artists from the realm of the JPN on a regular basis.

Iman is a multi-reed player, arranger and composer.

Frank van Berkel (born 1963) is working as program director at the BIMHUIS Amsterdam, The Netherlands, since January 2018. Frank also works as a freelance programmer for festival North Sea Round Town in Rotterdam. Before that, Frank worked as a freelance music program manager in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Frank worked for Concertgebouw De Doelen, Jazz International Rotterdam, LantarenVenster and LUX in Nijmegen. He managed the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, an original collective of next generation Dutch jazz musicians and sat on the advisory committee for music of the Dutch Performing Arts Fund for six years. I became the licensee of the Albert Inn at the ripe old age of 21 in 1979.
My love of jazz music led to putting on events in the bar of the 90-capacity venue, which grew year on year. Starting the music in 1983 the venue developed a national and international reputation as one of the finest live music venues of its kind. Each year over 50 jazz events and latterly a similar number of acoustic music events took place, all in a 22-year period attracting over 750,000 people. Ildo Nandja is a versatile and progressive bassist with an ambitiously cross-fusion approaches bent towards contemporary influenced jazz, currently based in Rotterdam - Holland.
